TELEHOUSE America’s facilities in the New York Metro market provide the ideal feeding ground for the development of new technologies which continue to propel the industry forward. With the New Year upon us, we already see some major trends taking shape in the industry. From recent fiber network M&A activity to the development of new cable systems designed for low latency transmission of data, the industry is nearly bursting at the seams to push those communication boundaries outward. We sat with TELEHOUSE America’s own Akio Sugeno, Senior Director of Internet Engineering and Operations Business Development, to give him an opportunity to share his vision for what technology developments we should expect in the New Year:
“With regards to the New York metro area, we expect a significant traffic increase from and to Europe – as New York City continues to be the ‘gateway’ to Europe. Ethernet will also replace traditional circuits, and there will be a surge of more diversified fiber. There will be higher IP bandwidth requirements due to the increase of broadband at home. We will observe the continued growth of ‘Smart Phone’ accounts for more IP markets, with the New York market standing ground as one of the largest. Last, but not least, considering the large population in the New York metro area, we will observe the successful deployment of IPv6.”
